Demand for budget flights continued to rebound in the run up to the festive season, with two of the UK’s largest no-frills carries reporting resurgent passenger numbers.
Ryanair carryings increased from 10.2 million in November 2021 to 11.2 million last month, exceeding the 11 million passengers Ryanair carried in November 2019.
However, while Ryanair’s November load factor was 92%, up from 87% a year ago, this remains down on the 96% it recorded in November 2019.
Wizz Air, meanwhile, carried just shy of 3.7 million passengers in November, up from around 2.2 million a year earlier. Load factor was 88.1%, a year-on-year improvement from 76.1%.
Further expansion at Wizz’s new Larnaca base will see the budget carrier grow frequencies to Luton following the addition of a further two based aircraft – doubling its fleet there to four Airbus A321neos.
Wizz emitted 53.3 grams of carbon per passenger-kilometre in November, a 16.2% reduction on the same month last year. Emissions per passenger-kilometre for the 12 months to 30 November was 55.7 grams.
