Saga has apologised for an overbranded brochure offering cruises “Exclusively For Brits” that was sent out by cruise.co.uk.
Saga said it was “extremely sorry” for any offence caused by the publication, which came to light after a Twitter complaint from a potential customer.
Ruth Bale, a retired probation officer, told The Guardian: “You’re very aware on these cruises that while passengers are mainly British, the staff are usually exclusively from places such as the Philippines.”
She asked: “Are the staff going to be Brits only? How far does ‘exclusively for Brits’ extend? It’s really awful that they think that’s what people want.”
Saga told TTG: “It was a cruise.co.uk promotional leaflet for Saga Cruise. Whilst inside the leaflet it mentions our cruises depart from UK ports only; the wording that was intended to highlight this key benefit on the front cover was interpreted incorrectly and was wholly inaccurate.
“Saga Cruises have a proud heritage of welcoming anybody over the age of 50, of any nationality, onboard our cruises. The error has been corrected with immediate effect and we would like to apologise for any offence this may have caused.”
Cruise.co.uk was approached for a comment.
