Three American tourists, two of whom were travel agents, found dead at a Sandals resort in the Bahamas earlier this month are understood to have died due to carbon monoxide poisoning, it has been reported.
The bodies of Tennessee agents Michael Phillips, 68, and wife Robbie Phillips, 65, who specialised in selling Sandals, and 64-year-old Vincent Chiarella from Florida, were found at Sandals Emerald Bay on Exuma.
According to the Nassau Guardian, an autopsy and toxicology report is due imminently, with the pathologist investigating the deaths on 6 May expected to rule that all three died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Chiarella’s wife Donnis raised the alarm when she found her husband unresponsive. The two couples were staying in separate villas as the resort. TTG has approached Sandals Resorts International for comment.
Following the deaths, Sandals said it immediately called the emergency services and alerted the relevant local authorities, adding it was supporting both the investigation and the guests’ families.
Royal Bahamian Police said there were no signs of trauma in any of the deaths. Initial autopsies were completed earlier this month, although the deceased’s families have requested a private pathologist conduct separate autopsies.
