Scenic Group has suspended all remaining 2021 European river cruises in the wake of increased lockdown measures in central Europe.
Six Scenic river cruises and four Emerald Cruises river cruises have been cancelled, all of which were due to visit Europe’s Christmas markets.
The move comes after Austria announced a full national lockdown on Monday (22 November) and the Bavarian region of Germany cancelled it’s Christmas markets.
The company is in the process of contacting affected guests to discuss their options, including transferring to a 2022 Christmas river cruise.
Global director of brand and marketing for Scenic Group, David Winterton, said "everybody has been left saddened by the abrupt end" to the line’s 2021 European season.
"For the past few months, we have welcomed thousands of guests on board our river ships, providing them with fantastic memories of sailing through the heart of Europe’s villages, towns and cities," he added.
"We now look forward to new adventures with our guests once we commence the 2022 European river cruise season in March."
Riviera Travel are also reviewing the evolving situation in Europe. A spokesperson said: "We are reviewing the situation closely and are planning to operate our river cruise sailings whenever we can. We are committed to offering exceptional experiences."
