The recent changes to Scotland’s travel testing regime have had an "immediate impact" on enquiries, according to the Scottish Passenger Agents’ Association (SPAA).
On Thursday (6 January), the UK’s devolved administrations aligned with the UK government by removing pre-departure tests and replacing Day 2 PCRs with antigen tests.
Following the move, SPAA members reported a 100% increase in customer enquiries compared to last week, with bookings reportedly showing a similar level of growth.
"Travel agents across Scotland are looking forward to a busy weekend as customer sentiment towards travel increases in positivity," vice president Mike Tibbert said. "These changes are good for our whole sector."
“However, it should be remembered that, although figures of 100% increase in enquiries and bookings looks significant, the base figures were very low after two years of incredibly poor trading."
Tibbert said the 100% increases reported are only around 60% of the levels members were trading at compared to a similar period in 2019.
He also urged the UK’s administrations to adopt a "four nation roadmap" to ensure a "stable future" for travellers and the sector.
