Most consumers are now proactively seeking out sustainable travel options as demand for international travel rebounds following the pandemic.
Six in 10 of the more than 26,000 consumers polled by the WTTC (61%) on the eve of its global summit stated a preference for sustainable travel brands and destinations.
Moreover, almost half (45%) said they would only spend with socially and environmentally responsible travel brands.
Nearly two-thirds of respondents (63%) to the poll by YouGov, which sought feedback from consumers in 25 countries, said they were planning a leisure trip in the next 12 months, with more than a quarter (27%) stating they were planning three or more trips over the same period.
The survey also revealed the world’s biggest spenders on travel over the next 12 months would likely be travellers from Australia.
Julia Simpson, WTTC president and chief executive, said: “This global survey shows that international travel is back. The results also show the growing importance of sustainable travel among consumers."
The summit will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, over 29-30 November.
