Princess Cruises’ Sky Princess has become the latest vessel commissioned for shore power at Port of Southampton.
The 3,660-guest ship, which launched in October 2019, will now be able to utilise emission-less “plug-in” technology when berthed at the port’s Mayflower Cruise Terminal.
Sky Princess is the sixth cruise ship to be commissioned since Port of Southampton’s shore power facility came online in April.
Sky joins AidaCosma, Queen Mary 2, AidaPrima, Celebrity Beyond and AidaSol in using the technology.
Shore power is also available at the port’s Horizon Cruise Terminal, which opened in September 2021.
Rebekah Keeler, head of cruise at Port of Southampton’s owner ABP, said: “We are really pleased to celebrate this shore power milestone with Princess Cruises.
“It’s great to help facilitate the sustainability goals of our cruise line partners and to see a range of cruise ships connecting to shore power at Southampton. We look forward to welcoming Sky Princess back to the port throughout the year.”
Princess’s UK and Europe vice-president Eithne Williamson added: “We are committed to sustainability and this commitment is embedded in our business – from ship to shore.
“Having Sky Princess commissioned for shore power at the Port of Southampton is an important step in the right direction to achieving our sustainability goals. We look forward to having more Princess ships commissioned for shore power at Southampton in the future.”
