Slovenia’s Adria Airways has “temporarily” ceased all flight operations.
The carrier said it had insufficient funds to continue operations and was seeking fresh investment.
Adria, a member of the Star Alliance, has provisionally cancelled all flights scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday (24-25 September).
However, while the airline says it is everyone at the carrier’s “goal” to fly again, it could not guarantee operations would resume.
It comes after Adria, just a week earlier, announced a new summer route between Slovenian capital Ljubljana and Liverpool.
In a statement, Adria said that as of 11.30pm on Monday (23 September), it had temporarily ceased all flight operations from its three bases – its main Ljubljana hub, and two operations in the Albanian cities of Pristina and Tirana.
“The decision to temporarily cease flight operations is a consequence of currently unsecured access to fresh cash, which the airline needs for further flight operations,” said Adria.
“The company is at this point intensively searching solutions in cooperation with potential investor. The goal of everyone involved is to make Adria Airways fly again and that ceasing of operations is indeed temporarily.”
The airline added it “deeply regretted” the situation and wished to apologise to all its passengers and partners.
