The general manager for operations at South African Airways has been appointed acting chief executive of the airline.
Zuks Ramasia will take up the role on Monday 10 June with the support of executive committee members including chief restructuring officer Peter Davies and chief financial officer Deon Fredericks.
The move means former CEO Vuyani Jarana will no longer hold the role after handing in his notice this week. He will continue to provide transitional support during his notice period.
The board added it is in ongoing discussions with the Department of Public Enterprises, National Treasury, and financial institutions with respect to putting in place a financial structure appropriate to supporting the long-term sustainability of the company.
Ramasia was part of a SAA senior delegation who recently flew in from Johannesburg to London to meet with the UK trade and key stakeholders.
