The Spanish government has declared an end to the health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to an updated Foreign Office travel advisory, the country has subsequently lifted all remaining compulsory requirements to wear face coverings.
This includes places such as health care facilities, social care centres and pharmacies.
However, local news reports suggest the use of face masks will remain a recommended precautionary measure in areas where there are immunocompromised patients, such as cancer units, operating theatres and intensive care units.
Speaking to news website SUR, Spain health minister Jose Minones said: "We send a message of remembrance to the victims of this terrible pandemic and to those who lost their lives and family members."
