For the heritage hunters

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians has more than 500 tribal members and plays a growing role in Greater Palm Springs, strengthening cultural connections to the ancient world of its ancestors. Travellers can hike the Indian Canyons: Andreas Canyon, Murray Canyon and Palm Canyon. They offer crystal clear streams, palm oases and rock formations, and those that choose to stroll through the beautiful landscape can also learn about the native history. Red Jeep Tours can offer an insightful guide through the ancestral land.

Elsewhere, the city of Coachella, the “City of Eternal Sunshine”, boasts a rich Mexican heritage offering colour at every turn. As visitors stroll through the city it’s hard to miss the Coachella Walls, covered with beautiful murals painted by local artists, outlining the city’s history and the people that helped build the community.

Clients can then head to Sixth Street Coffee and try its horchata latte for a little pick me up – named one of the best coffees in Greater Palm Springs. If visiting in October, travellers should be sure to catch the Mexican delights at the annual Tacos, Tequila and Chavelas festival.

Date shake, anyone?

The drinking and dining options in Greater Palm Springs are a big draw. Those looking for a bar with a difference can take flight at PS Air Bar and Lounge. Hidden in a Palm Springs wine store, this unique experience allows guests first class access without the passport. They’ll take a (737) seat and sip on a mile-high cocktail, book a boozy brunch or join a karaoke night.

Meanwhile, the humble date is a key ingredient in multiple culinary delights across the destination due to its multiple date farms, and many locations offer their own spin on the date shake. Using vanilla ice cream and date crystals, this signature drink is perfect for those looking for a cooling sweet treat. Shields Date Garden is the ideal spot to not only taste this signature drink but also wander through its 17-acre date farm or watch its film on “The Romance and Sex Life of the Date”.

And finally, the adventurous are invited to stay at “dreamscape in the high desert”, AutoCamp Joshua Tree. AutoCamp offers a mixture of airstream accommodation as well as classic and accessible cabins, ideal for the off-the-beaten track traveller looking for that extra degree of luxury.
