Storm Ali winds rip Oceania Cruises ship from moorings
James ChappleA cruise ship torn from its moorings by strong winds as Storm Ali swept across Scotland on Wednesday (September 19) safely resumed its journey on Thursday morning.
No one was hurt when the mooring lines securing Oceania Nautica were severed while the ship was docked in Greenock, requiring the assistance of a fleet of tugs.
All 478 guests and 26 crew were brought ashore until conditions were safe to return the ship to the passenger terminal. Oceania Cruises confirmed to TTG in a statement guests were able to reboard on Wednesday night.
The ship was able to continue its voyage around the UK on Thursday, making its scheduled stop in Belfast. Oceania has further confirmed it has no plans to alter or amend the rest of the sailing.
Nautica is currently on a 38-day cruise from Stockholm to Barcelona.
"All guests were able to reboard Nautica on the evening of September 19," said the line.
"The ship continued on its voyage around the UK making its scheduled stop in Belfast this morning (September 20). There are no plans to alter or amend the remainder of the sailing."
