Thailand is the latest country to ease its Covid-19 travel restrictions by removing the need for visitors to complete a health declaration prior to entry.
The country’s Centre of Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) approved the removal of the Thailand Pass registration scheme and mandatory $10,000 health insurance requirement on Friday (17 June).
From 1 July, foreign nationals will only be required to show either proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test result taken within 72 hours of travel.
Commenting on the announcement, director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) London Sadudee Sangnil said: "This is the news we have been waiting to share. The removal of the online Thailand Pass application simplifies travel to Thailand once again and removes what was a barrier to travel for some. Although bookings to Thailand have considerably picked up in the last few months, the removal of pre-departure requirements makes Thailand accessible to everyone once more."
For 2022, Thailand has set a target of seven to 10 million international tourists and 160 million trips from the domestic market with a tourism revenue generation of 1.5 trillion baht.
In the first five months of the year, the country saw 1.23 million international arrivals. With the lifting of the Thailand Pass from 1 July, TAT is expecting at least 500,000 international arrivals each month jumping to one million international arrivals each month over the winter period.
