Tourism Ireland has named Google’s customer solutions managing director UK and Ireland and corporate reputation lead EMEA, Alice Mansergh, its new chief executive.
Mansergh, who is currently based in Dublin and has for the past five years served on the board of Ireland’s national tourism development authority Failte Ireland, will take up the role in September.
Tourism Ireland said Mansergh would bring almost 20 years’ strategic leadership experience to the role, as well as "wide experience" working with travel industry partners.
Mansergh joined Google in 2004 and has held a range of senior roles with the US tech giant, including head of operations UK and Ireland, head of B2B customer marketing EMEA, head of Chrome marketing EMEA, and director of consumer marketing in the UK.
This has seen her lead the firm’s international marketing teams, overseeing creative campaigns for TV, outdoor and digital media in the UK, France, Germany and Middle East.
Christopher Brooke, Tourism Ireland chair, described Mansergh as a "highly experienced, strategic leader with extensive international marketing experience and a strong understanding of digital trends".
"She will provide strategic leadership to the team at Tourism Ireland at an important time for our industry, which continues on the road to recovery," said Brooke. "She will work with, and support, our tourism industry partners, at home and overseas, as we rebuild overseas tourism to the island of Ireland."
Mansergh added: "I am passionate about tourism, and for the past five years have been a board member of Failte Ireland, supporting tourism product development and industry investment. I understand what a vital role tourism plays for the economy and for communities across the island of Ireland.
"I look forward to meeting and working with the talented team at Tourism Ireland. I am excited for what the future holds and where we can take the organisation on behalf of the island of Ireland’s tourism industry.”
Subject to formal approval by the North South Ministerial Council, Mansergh will take up her new position on 18 September.
