Travel entrepreneur Hugo Burge, former chief executive of Cheapflights parent Momondo Group, has passed away suddenly.
Burge left the group in July 2017 after it was acquired by OTA giant Priceline Group, which owns Booking.com and Kayak.
A long-time investor in, and supporter of, the arts and crafts movement, in 2018 Burge set up Marchmont Ventures to continue his work, based out of Marchmont House in the Scottish Borders.
The estate was purchased by his father in the late 1980s, with Burge dedicating his post-Momondo years to turning it into a sanctuary for creatives.
Burge invested in several other firms during his career in travel, including Trivago, which was achieved via investment fund Howzat, of which he was a co-founder.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hugo Burge, who died suddenly at home on Wednesday 10 May," said Marchmont House in a statement.
"Hugo’s kindness, intelligence, curiosity and belief in a better world made him an inspiration to us all. He was a beloved son and a great friend. We will miss him terribly."
