The Travel Network Group has switched the location of its 2023 conference from Jerusalem to Munich citing insurmountable “operational challenges".
“Unfortunately, we could not overcome these, and so, for reasons beyond our control, we have decided to host the event in an alternative destination this year,” said chief executive Gary Lewis.
“While we are incredibly disappointed that our 2023 conference cannot take place in Jerusalem, we are confident that in the future, we will be able to host our members and business partners in the city.”
The consortium has hosted two fam trips to Israel in 2022 in partnership with the Israel Government Tourism Board, allowing around 60 travel agents to experience all the country had to offer.
Commenting on the decision, Sharon Bershadsky, UK and Ireland director at Israel’s ministry of tourism, added she was looking forward to welcoming members of The Travel Network Group at a later date.
The new conference will take place between 4 and 6 December at Munich’s Marriott Westin Grand Hotel. Delegates, Lewis said, will be able to make the most of the city during the Christmas period, as some events will be hosted outside the conference venue.
TTNG revealed in December 2019 its plans to host the event in Jerusalem in 2020. However, the event has been beset by the impacts of Covid and geopolitical considerations in Israel.
