The travel job market excelled last year after wages, placements and vacancies all reached "near-record highs", according to C&M Travel Recruitment’s 2022 Travel Salary Index.
Salaries for the average new job in travel jumped by 11.5% in 2022 to stand at a record £30,617, according to the new data which surveyed all new vacancies registered with the company during the year.
The figure was up by 8.5% from the last pre-pandemic year of 2019 and was also up by 14% from 2018 and by 17.6% from 2017.
The rise was even larger for standard new travel jobs (those paying up to £40,000) which increased annually by 17.3% to stand at an average of £28,496.
Compared to previous years, 2022’s total was up by 14.2% from 2019, up by 15% from 2018 and up by 23% from 2017.
Meanwhile, the number of people placed in new travel jobs jumped by 181% in 2022, trailing only 2017 by just 3%.
Similarly, the number of new travel job vacancies was up by 96% in 2022 from the previous year and reached the second highest level since the index began.
Barbara Kolosinska, managing director at C&M Travel Recruitment, said: "Whichever we look at it, 2022 was a historic year for travel recruitment. After suffering hugely as a result of the pandemic, we all needed 2022 to be a bumper year – and was it ever.
"Last year set numerous records for vacancies and job placements, with spring and summer 2022 being the busiest period for travel recruitment that we have ever seen in the past 25 years."
