Change at the top at Tui as veterans bow out

Change at the top at Tui as veterans bow out

Tui's chief marketing officer Neil Swanson, who has overseen the operator's renewed courtship of the trade, will take over from Tui UK and Ireland managing director Andrew Flintham when he leaves the business in October after 17 years to join British Airways Holidays. Swanson recently updated TTG on Tui's efforts to win over third-party agents, urging them to give the operator a go. He steps up as part of wider restructure of Tui's business. Helen Caron, meanwhile, has called time on her 24-year career with Tui, during which she held senior leadership roles across product, purchasing, cruise and distribution. She is also credited with "transforming" Tui's Marella Cruises brand.

That wider restructure across Tui's core Markets + Airline business will shift commercial emphasis onto its airline division. To steer this, with a view to "seizing commercial opportunities within the airline sector", Tui has created a new board-level chief commercial officer role, to which it has appointed SunExpress chief commercial officer Peter Glade. Glade will take up his new role on 1 November. Marco Ciomperlik, chief executive of Tui Airline, said the group wanted to become "the holiday airline of choice for B2B partners". Tui said Glade played "a pivotal role in the strategic realignment of Austrian Airlines". He also spent eight years working in sales and market development for Star Alliance.

British Airways Holidays boss to retire after nearly 25 years

British Airways Holidays managing director Claire Bentley will retire at the end of October after 24 years at the helm. BA Holidays said Bentley grew revenues by a factor of 25 during her tenure, turning the operator into one of the UK's largest – a top 10 Atol holder licensed to carry more than one million passengers. "I’ve known for some time I need to adjust my priorities and take more care of myself," said Bentley. "I'm so proud to have been part of an amazing team." Adam Daniels, chief executive of IAG Loyalty, said Bentley had led BA Holidays "through significant change" and would be hugely missed. Bentley will be succeeded by Tui UK and Ireland managing director Andrew Flintham.
