Tui Group has set a target of 2030 to cut its emissions under a new sustainability agenda.
The new three-pronged framework brings together the company’s sustainability initiatives and programmes to reduce Tui’s environmental footprint and maximize positive socio-economic impacts in holiday destinations.
A new science-based initiative has called for a 24% reduction from Tui airlines, a minimum of 46.2% for hotels and 27.5% for cruise compared to 2019.
The three parts of the agenda have been detailed as "People, Planet and Progress", which are underpinned by fifteen focus areas to be implemented across the business.
"We are in a decade of sustainable transformation – for Tui and the tourism industry," said Sebastian Ebel, chief executive of Tui Group.
"Sustainability is a top priority for me personally and for Tui. We have proven in the past that we have the expertise and the right approach to make tourism more sustainable."
For Tui airlines, which accounts for around 80% of the group’s emissions, the company will increase the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) beyond current blending obligations.
Elsewhere, the company plans to offer climate-neutral cruise holidays and reduce the CO2e emissions of its fleets by more than a quarter in absolute terms by 2030.
For Tui Hotels and Resorts, the company is working to reduce hotel emissions as far as possible to zero as early as 2030.
For the "Progress" building block, Tui will continue with its hotel sustainability certification strategy and since 2015 has delivered more than 54 million holidays to hotels independently certified as sustainable.
To promote positive social impact for people in destinations, Tui will raise €10 million annually for the Tui Care Foundation by 2024.
