Serious injury lawyers Irwin Mitchell have issued court proceedings against Tui after dozens of holidaymakers fell ill during a stay at a hotel in Hurghada.
A total of 36 people were struck down with gastric symptoms while on holiday at the Jaz Aquamarine hotel between January and October in 2019.
Of these, eight people were diagnosed with salmonella, one with the stomach bug giardiasis, and one with a strain of E.coli and the associated bacterial infection shigella.
Four of the holidaymakers were hospitalised – one in Egypt and three on their return to the UK. All had booked their holiday through Tui.
Irwin Mitchell, which has experience in representing holidaymakers affected by illness, including dozens who have previously stayed at this hotel in 2016, 2017 and 2018, are now pursing legal action through the courts.
Solicitor Hannah Clifford called on Tui to work with the firm to help resolve the cases. "To hear that so many people were struck down with debilitating illness after staying at Hurghada’s Jaz Aquamarine hotel is deeply concerning," she added.
"Our clients were understandably looking forward to their holidays and were left devastated when they developed gastric symptoms. These types of illnesses can lead to severe long-term conditions and should never be downplayed."
A spokesperson for Tui said: "We are sorry to hear of these experiences at the Jaz Aquamarine Hotel. As this is now a legal matter, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.
"We’d like to reassure customers that we regularly audit all of our hotels in respect to health and safety, including hygiene."
