Turkmenistan Airlines restores UK flights using alternative carrier

The move by Easa earlier this week effectively forced the airline to suspend its flights to and from the EU. The CAA subsequently withdrew the airline’s operating licence on Easa’s advice.

Turkmenistan operated flights from Heathrow and Birmingham to Amritsar, and Heathrow to Delhi via Ashgabat.

Now, though, the CAA has confirmed “some services” to and from the UK had been restored, with flights operated by Spanish carrier Wamos.

“We are aware some services to and from the UK have been restored, as flights will be operated by the Spanish licensed charter carrier Wamos Air,” said the CAA.

“Passengers are advised to contact Turkmenistan Airlines for further information.”

The Foreign Office added: “The European Aviation Safety Agency (Easa) has suspended Turkmenistan Airlines flights to and from the EU pending confirmation it meets international air safety standards.

“Turkmenistan Airlines are making alternative arrangements for some services to and from the UK. Affected passengers are advised to contact Turkmenistan Airlines to seek further information.”

A statement posted on the airline’s website on Wednesday (February 6) confirmed flight T5422 departing Birmingham at 10.50pm would go ahead as scheduled.
