The UK’s red list has been reduced to zero countries, but the system will remain in place to be deployed to guard against the threat posed by new variants of Covid-19.
At 4am on Monday (1 November), Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Panama, Peru and Venezuela were all removed from the red list.
It means fully vaccinated arrivals from these countries will no longer have to complete 10 days in hotel quarantine upon their arrival in the UK.
It is the first time since the red list came into existence in February that it has featured no countries at all, with much of Latin American having been consigned to the red list for much of the year.
Transport secretary Grant Shapps last week confirmed the system would be retained, with any new additions to the red list reviewed on a three-weekly basis.
Lata chief executive Danny Callaghan said the move was long overdue. "After many challenging months, Lata members will be pleased that they can look at taking their clients to this amazing part of the world once again.
"This is a very well-needed boost for the Latin American travel sector.”
