This is the moment Wrexham AFC’s Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds confirmed United Airlines as the club’s new shirt sponsor
The skit involving the club’s co-chairs sees the pair respond to them having unwittingly rebranded the club "Wrexham United" in a tweet, before quickly pointing out the lack of an ampersand – Wrexham & United.
United’s branding will adorn the front of Wrexham’s iconic red shirts next season – the club’s first back in the football league after a 15-year absence. The sponsorship will extend to all of Wrexham’s 2023/24 strips, as well as the club’s women’s team.
McElhenney and Reynolds said Wrexham would continue to seek out sponsors that "match the spirit" of the club and its fans.
"We could think of no better sponsor for the next phase of our quest than United Airlines," they said. "The team, town and fans around the world are united as never before and United Airlines is committed to elevating our story and journey.”
United chief communications officer, Josh Earnest, said Wrexham’s story "represented the best of what professional sports has to offer".
“The passion and perseverance of this team on the rise has captured the imagination of people in the US and around the worl," said Forrest. "When the Wrexham AFC players deliver even more heart-pumping moments this season, we couldn’t be prouder that United Airlines will be written across their chests."
The partnership will extend to Wrexham’s social media output and the hit Welcome to Wrexham docu-series.
United will fly Wrexham to the States for the club’s first American pre-season tour, the first time in Wrexham AFC history the team will play in the US.
The carrier added it would work with the club on additional ways to support the local community "from a philanthropic perspective".
