Brits have been urged to remain "extremely vigilant" in certain areas of Kenya after the US Embassy in the country issued a terrorism warning.
In a statement published on Thursday (9 February), the organisation warned locations frequented by tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya continue to be attractive targets to terrorists planning to conduct "potentially imminent" attacks.
Groups could attack with little or no warning, targeting hotels, embassies, restaurants, shopping centres, markets, schools, police stations and places of worship.
The government of Kenya has increased counterterrorism patrols and travellers have been advised to exercise vigilance at locations frequented by tourists, review their security plans, remain aware of their surroundings and monitor local media.
The UK Foreign Office said: "There is a heightened threat of terrorism, including terrorist kidnappings, across Kenya.
"Attacks, including terrorist kidnappings, could target westerners, including British nationals. Attacks could occur at any time, including around religious or other public holidays or celebrations."
