A ban on laptop computers and other personal devices on flights from Europe to the US will not be introduced, the BBC has reported.
A four-hour meeting in Brussels between US and EU officials decided that a ban would not be applied to flights from the UK and Europe. The Trump administration had earlier given strong hints that UK flights would be brought under the restriction, something that had angered frequent fliers in particular.
A restriction on any devices larger than a smartphone on flights from the Middle East to the US remains in place. The UK also has a similar ban on flights from Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Tunisia.
Aviation experts have criticised the introduction of the restrictions, arguing that the lithium batteries that these devices contain are normally not permitted in hold luggage, as they can be a fire risk.
