Vertical Systems managing director Chris North has left the business after more than 25 years and will take a break from the industry to spend more time with his family.
North, who took over as managing director of the technology supplier in March 2018 after some 20 years with Vertical, confirmed his departure to TTG on Monday (30 October).
He will continue to serve as a trustee and mental health champion of Abta LifeLine, seeking to proactively raise awareness of – and promote support for – good mental health in the workplace.
North is one of TTG’s Get Travel Talking ambassadors, and has spoken and written candidly in recent years of his own mental health struggles, with the aim of inspiring others to seek the help they need and, along with several others, lend the industry the ear it often needs.
He is hopeful of returning to travel in the new year.
"I have fond memories of collaborating with exceptional individuals and achieving significant milestones at Vertical Systems," said North.
"Over the past five years, we successfully rebranded the business with a new identity and introduced an innovative suite of products. We established strong partnerships and friendships with our customers.
"However, for the time being, I plan to enjoy some quality family time and eagerly anticipate returning in February 2024. I wish Peter [Healey, Vertical founder] and all the guys at Vertical the very best for the future."
Prior to taking over as MD at Vertical, North oversaw the group’s travel businesses. Last year, he completed the Abta LifeLine Trek for Good, climbing Morocco’s Mount Toubkal in support of the charity.
