Viking’s new purpose-built Mekong ship has embarked on the line’s first south-east Asia sailing since the onset of Covid-19 two-and-a-half years ago.
The 80-guest Viking Saigon will sail between Kampong Cham in Cambodia and My Tho in Vietnam during Viking’s 15-day Magnificent Mekong itinerary.
Regular 2022/23 season sailings are available through to March 2023, with the ship’s 2023/24 season getting under way in July 2023.
All 40 outside guestrooms onboard Saigon feature hotel-style beds and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors opening out onto a veranda or French balcony.
The ship also features a spa and fitness centre, infinity pool and open-air sky bar on its upper deck.
Viking’s Magnificent Mekong itinerary includes hotel stays in Hanoi, Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and offers 16 guided tours throughout the trip.
Guests can explore Hanoi’s old quarter, see a traditional performance of Apsara dance, experience the region’s unique cuisine, visit Angkor Wat and the jungle ruins of Ta Prohm, and take a cycle-rickshaw tour of Phnom Penh.
On the water, meanwhile, the itinerary navigates silk towns, fishing villages, monasteries and floating markets. Viking is currently offering a discount of £750pp on all 2023 river cruises, including Magnificent Mekong, when booked by 31 December 2022.
"The fascinating cultures of Vietnam and Cambodia have always made this region a favourite destination among our guests," said Viking chair Torstein Hagen.
"We are also pleased to welcome back to south-east Asia our first guests since early 2020. With arrival of the Viking Saigon, we look forward to introducing even more curious travellers to this iconic waterway in the coming years."
