Virgin Atlantic has sealed a codeshare agreement with Latam Airlines, signalling the end of its own ambitions to fly to Brazil.
Virgin will put its code on Latam’s Heathrow-Sao Paulo service, having cancelled its own proposed launch onto the route in October 2020 after the pandemic hit.
In addition, the Virgin code will appear on connections from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Curitiba, Goiania, Recife, Salvador, Florianopolis, Fortaleza, Vitoria and Londrina.
The codeshare will allow for easier connections at Heathrow’s Terminal 3 for Latam’s inbound passengers, including to Virgin’s services to Tel Aviv, Delhi and Hong Kong.
Juha Jarvinen, Virgin’s chief commercial officer, said: “As we recover from the pandemic, partnerships are more important than ever, and we look forward to building on the incredibly successful interline relationship we have had in place for a number of years.
“We also see opportunities beyond Brazil and look forward to expanding our relationship even further to serve destinations throughout South America including Peru and Colombia.”
