Virgin Atlantic will put on a third weekly Heathrow-Grenada service this winter.
The extra Friday flight will start on 8 December running through to 29 March 2024. Virgin will operate the extra frequency using a 264-seat Airbus A330-300 aircraft. All three services – Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays – will operate to Maurice Bishop International airport via Barbados.
The Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) hailed the additional frequency "a significant step in enhancing convenience of accessibility to the destination".
Chair Randall Dolland said: "It is a clear indication that our tourism product continues on an upward trajectory. This additional capacity will contribute significantly to even higher occupancies for our hotels and provide a substantial boost to our economy."
GTA chief executive Petra Roach said the extra capacity would support airlift for England’s T20 cricket fixture versus the West Indias, and festivities marking the 50th anniversary of the island’s independence.
"We anticipate a significant uptick of arrivals from the diaspora, who are keen to celebrate this auspicious occasion with family and friends on island," said Roach.
She added: “We extend our sincere gratitude to Virgin for their unwavering support and confidence in Grenada and we commit to further fostering this partnership as we move forward."
