Virgin Atlantic has paid tribute to fashion trailblazer Vivienne Westwood, whose death at the age of 81 was announced on Thursday (29 December).
Westwood, who made her name from anti-establishment punk and new wave styles in the 1970s, created Virgin Atlantic’s current cabin crew uniform worn by staff since 2014.
Posting across its social media yesterday, the airline called Westwood “a true British icon” and a “visionary”.
Rest in peace Dame Vivienne Westwood. A true British icon and the visionary behind our iconic uniform design that we’ve been proudly wearing since 2014 ❤️ pic.twitter.com/ZoJayJMgmE

Revealing the new uniform in July 2014, Virgin said Westwood’s creation aimed to “elevate air travel to the heights of its glamorous past”.
Ahead of the uniform’s launch, a group of TTG team members visited the airline’s Crawley headquarters to try it on and learn some tips from its styling experts.
