The owners of family-run agency Westoe Travel will hand over the management reins to their daughter as part of major expansion plans for the business.
While still playing a full-time role within the South Shields-based agency, owners Graeme and Joan Brett have appointed their daughter Gillian Vogel as manager of the branch as it celebrates its 34th anniversary.
Graeme will now concentrate on the high street firm’s in-house tour operator Rail Adventures, and Joan will become finance director and oversee the company’s portfolio of Canada Tailor Made Holidays.
Meanwhile, Alice Appleby – who started with the branch as an apprentice 10 years ago – has been promoted to assistant manager and Chloe Brown, who recently completed her apprenticeship, will become a full-time member of staff responsible for social media and administration.
The move will see Maddy Amos join as a travel apprentice, having completed her degree at Newcastle University in the summer.
"Alice and Gillian must be two of the most widely travelled people in travel," Graeme said. "They have been to all corners of the world and their travel knowledge is a joy to listen to.
"Their knowledge, and experience is invaluable to our customers and to our new team members."
Westoe Travel was crowned TTG’s Top Travel Agency in the North East last year.
