Wizz Air has announced a new connection with a future European Capital of Culture.
Doncaster Sheffield airport will gain a link with Romania’s third city Timisoara later this year.
Located in the west of the country, the city is a gateway to Transylvania.
It is one of three cities to have been designated a European Capital of Culture in 2021, along with Elefsina in Greece and Novi Sad, Serbia.
As of September 3, Doncaster Sheffield will offer direct flights to the city twice a week, thanks to a new route operated by low-cost carrier Wizz Air.
Flights will be operated by Airbus A320 or A321 aircraft.
The route is Wizz’s 13th at Doncaster Sheffield, serving five countries.
Tamara Vallois, Wizz Air head of communications, said: “Our newest route now connects Doncaster with Timisoara, the historical Transylvanian city in the western corner of the country.
"It is a perfect destination for a weekend break or even a longer trip, offering a relaxing atmosphere."
