Hotel group Onyx Hospitality will be highlighting its expansion plans with a focus on its home destination of Thailand and neighbouring Malaysia.
Onyx is on track to operate 54 properties by 2025, including eight new hotels in 2023, with Malaysia set to become the first country to offer all three of the company’s brands – Amari, Shama and OZO – outside Thailand.
This includes the recent openings of Amari Spice Penang with 453 rooms and suites, plus Amari Kuala Lumpur in the Malaysian capital. They will be followed by OZO Medini Iskandar later this year and two more properties in Malaysia in early 2023.
Onyx has also been renovating and refurbishing some of its Thai resorts, including Amari Pattaya, OZO North Pattaya and Amari Watergate in Bangkok.
The company is due to open its second Amari resort in the Maldives in the first quarter of 2023, with Amari Maldives featuring 200 villas on a private island resort in the Raa Atoll. Amari Colombo Sri Lanka will also open next year in a 24-storey building in the country’s capital.
Yuthachai Charanachitta, owner and chief executive of Onyx Hospitality Group, said: “In addition to expanding our regional footprint, we are also poised to reposition our three core brands in response to the evolving consumer landscape – this will include a freshening-up of some of our existing key properties.
“Our strategic expansion in Asia Pacific is not only linked to our core expertise, but also the burgeoning economy and high population, which are both pivotal in aiding the recovery of travel and hospitality in the region.”
Charanachitta said he was “also excited” to be expanding Onyx’s presence in the Maldives, Laos, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and Japan as part of its major expansion over the next few years.
