The hunt is on to find the world’s change-makers who are taking responsibility for driving down the negative impacts of tourism.
The prestigious Global Responsible Tourism Awards, sponsored by Sabre are selected from the winners of regional awards held in Africa, Latin America, India and South East Asia as well as a "rest of the world" award which is open for entry until the end of August.
Judges are looking for winners in six areas: making travel inclusive, championing cultural diversity, nature positive, climate change, creating shared value increasing local resourcing and employing and upskilling local communities.
Emeritus professor Harold Goodwin who chairs the judging panel said: "We are looking for initiatives which can provide inspiration for other destinations and organisations to learn from. We want to hear from the places and people who are developing solutions and tracking the difference they make."
Tess Longfield, head of sustainability communications, Sabre said: "the Responsible Tourism Awards shine a light on best practice from around the world. The most exciting ideas can come from anywhere; the smallest tourism business to the largest corporation. I’m really looking forward to seeing what contenders we have for the Global Responsible Tourism Awards in 2024."
Regional winners in the WTM Africa and Latin America LATA awards are already confirmed. But entry to three regional awards are still open and all are free to enter.
Entries for the International Centre for Responsible Tourism India and South East Asia awards can be submitted before 30 June. The Rest Of The World awards are open to entries from anywhere in the world until 31 August.
Winners of the regional awards qualify to be considered for the Global Responsible Tourism Awards, sponsored by Sabre which will be announced in November 2024.
