Beaver Travel, Radlett

Beaver Travel has existed as a travel agency since 1962 when it originally sold “bucket and spade” holidays from its premises in the Hertfordshire village of Radlett.

Beaver Travel Radlett

The agency began its transformation into a luxury specialist during the mid-1990s when Andrew Devine and Gary Green purchased the business from original owner Allan Beaver.

The business partners soon decided to solely focus on selling upmarket holidays and brought in a professional designer to create a “travel lounge with a Gucci feel” in the early 2000s.

The move has clearly paid off with Beaver Travel winning awards from industry bodies such as the Association of Independent Tour Operators (Aito).

Beaver has a team of 14 working from its Radlett shop including eight sales staff. It also operates Pro Sports Travel, which organises holidays for professional sporting stars including several high-profile footballers who are seeking a “discreet” service.

Around 85% of its business comes from repeat customers and referrals from existing clients - thanks to its policy of concentrating on high service levels and offering “unique life experiences”.

These experiences include activities such as a breakfast balloon trip over the Serengeti plains in east Africa or a private island picnic in the Maldives.

Beaver prides itself on getting to know its customers and their preferences – particularly the top-spending 20% of its client base who qualify for its “Black Book” service.

These clients regularly spend more than £100,000 per year on holidays and are given an “elevated” level of service, which is tailored to their likes and dislikes through detailed profiles. They also have the same member of staff looking after their bookings.

Beaver concentrates on turning around travel itineraries quickly – ideally within three hours – no matter how complex the arrangements may be.

The agency’s concierge service will communicate with clients before, during and after their trips to ensure everything has gone smoothly, as well as making restaurant reservations and recommending excursions.

A series of client events are held throughout the year ranging from destination-themed nights at nearby restaurants to hosting 300 clients at a golf club.
