TTG Top 50 Travel Agencies

With its position at the entrance of the Co-operative supermarket, Jersey’s largest Travelmaker store is in prime position to catch passing trade.

Travelmaker Jersey

Its layout plays to this, with brochures lining the walkway into the supermarket, and huge inspirational black and white photographs of destinations decorating its walls. The store has a clean and uncluttered feel, with individual desks offering customers privacy, and a special VIP suite – complete with champagne - for those booking celebratory trips or high-end breaks.

Despite its prime location, the agency also works hard in marketing itself to the local community. This includes sponsorship of the local Ladies golf club, and involvement in the local business leaders networking club. Regular events include afternoon teas and an annual travel show, which last year attracted more than 400 clients, while the agency also has an innovative way of informing clients about fam trips that the staff take – it takes a page in a local magazine, with the staff member then writing a Q&A based on their trip.

It’s not all about business though - Travelmaker also plays a key role in working with the local community, with the staff taking it in turns to carry out shifts for the local Meals on Wheels.

Travelmakers employees are clearly passionate about their jobs too – most have been there for between 10 and 15 years, ensuring an unrivalled wealth of experience on the Channel Island. And their love for the job is demonstrated in their dedicated service to clients. In one recent example, one staff member was taking a Florida booking when she realised it was for a charity booking for a group of children that had all suffered bereavement. She offered an immediate discount, with the agency swallowing the cost. Another employee recently stepped in to help out a client following the death of one of her elderly clients who had been on holiday in Mexico. Being fluent in Spanish, she used her skills to translate all the many phone calls the family had to make, and made sure to hand deliver all subsequent documents to them herself.
