Oasis Travel, Howard Street, Belfast

One of five Oasis stores, the Howard Street branch opened in Belfast city centre in May 2011. A December refurbishment has seen the agency adopt a chic new silver-and-white colour scheme, increase in size and welcome revamped back-office booking rooms for private consultations.

The recent adoption of in-store virtual reality (VR) technology has complemented the revamped customer experience, enabling them to explore one of the most exciting new cruise ships on the market, Celebrity Edge, from the comfort of the Northern Irish capital.

The nine-strong team can claim 65 years’ experience between them, which has been bolstered by regular training and independent adventures to far-flung destinations around the globe. So whether it’s a Caribbean beach break or a luxury tour of Sardinia, Oasis has you covered.

Since Christmas, the branch has been operating as the company’s first Cruise Beyond outlet too – specialising in ocean and river cruising. A partnership with the Belfast Telegraph, offering cruise holidays departing from the city, has gleaned the agency an average of eight bookings a week since January, while targeted Facebook offers ensure deals reach the right client such as families and solo travellers.

If going above and beyond for clients was an Olympic sport, then Oasis Travel would win a gold medal. Standout examples include an occasion when the team arranged travel for a large group of children with cancer and their families. Because they had to travel with an assortment of medication, the Oasis team ensured airport security staff were adequately briefed to avoid any complications before boarding.

Helping charities is important to Oasis Travel. Organisations close to the team’s heart include Brainwaves NI – a support group for brain tumour sufferers, their carers and families; the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity; and Mitchell House School for disabled children.

Following the earthquakes in Indonesia last summer, the team reached out, via the Rotary Club of Belfast, to the ShelterBox international disaster relief charity to fund portable tents to help affected communities rebuild their homes and infrastructure.

This empathy, knowledge of the industry and strong work ethic earn Oasis Travel Howard Street a well-deserved place in the Top 50 list.
