Lanzarote, a unique island
Lanzarote is an island of extreme and unusual beauty. Its rugged landscapes of jagged black volcanoes and malpais created by volcanic eruptions nearly three centuries ago contrast strongly with the wide sandy beaches and the green valleys of the northern part of the island.
Lanzarote has a year-round temperature of 22 degrees and more than 3000 hours of sun per year, which make it an ideal destination to visit all year round and is a haven to practice outdoor sports.
Lanzarote is covered by multi-coloured lava which is especially spectacular at Timanfaya National Park. The Mountains here are often compared to the moon´s landscape being one of the most spectacular volcanic landscapes in the world.
The island was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1993. This and the work of the local artist César Manrique, reinforced the commitment of the island to approach tourism in a sustainable, culturally significant manner.
