Intrepid Travel is raising money to support storm-hit communities in northern Vietnam after the region bore the brunt of Typhoon Yagi’s vicious winds and heavy rains earlier this month.
The operator has launched an emergency appeal through the Intrepid Foundation, with all funds set to be given to its local charity partner – the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation – to provide immediate on-the-ground relief.
Blue Dragon will use the money to provide shelter and food for those impacted by flooding and landslides. When the situation stabilises, funds will also be put towards longer-term support, such as rebuilding efforts.
"By supporting this appeal, the international travel community can directly contribute to the humanitarian relief efforts, supplying immediate needs to children and families across the 13 northern provinces,” said Intrepid Foundation general manager Biheng Zhang.
The operator has confirmed its travellers and staff in Vietnam are safe and that trips are continuing to operate, with groups in northern Vietnam being rerouted away from the affected areas.
"As the events unfold, I am heartbroken to witness the immense devastation and suffering that some people, communities and villages are experiencing”, added Intrepid Travel Vietnam general manager Hanh Nguyen.
“This is a loss no one should ever have to bear, and I deeply urge everyone to join hands for the country we love.”
Intrepid’s relationship with Vietnam runs deep, it long having been one of its most popular destinations. It was also the first country where it set up a local office, while is partnership with Blue Dragon is one of its longest in the region.
