Marion Owen and her small but highly experienced team, completed by her sister Susan Owen and Emma Williams, head into the business’s 30th year with fresh wind in their sails.
Emma and Marion have, in their own words “had each other’s backs” for more than 30 years, while Susan’s arrival brings her full circle after Marion showed her the ropes back in the day.
Together, they share more than 100 years’ travel experience, these days specialising in touring and adventure holidays, with Marion – a licensed coach driver – stepping in during Covid to get tours back on the road.
Marion is an experienced tour leader, and personally escorts several tours every year, such as her incredible journey to Finland in search of the northern lights. Emma’s done a few too, and the team are hopeful that with Susan onboard, they can offer their clients even more personalised experiences, including escorted cruises.
The service ethos at Marion Owen Travel is highly personal; the team will do everything short of packing your bags: check-in, forms, visas – covering everything in a pre-departure pack. They even have a trusted taxi driver to offer door-to-door service, and clients always get a call when they get home.
While the trio’s expertise knows no bounds, they’re always looking to learn, topping up their knowledge at local roadshows and conferences. One of Marion’s aims is to build-up the business’s social media presence to extend the agency’s reach, with their website set to gain online booking functionality too.
Plans for new solar panels on the agency’s flat roof will cut energy costs significantly; other sustainability drives include dispensing with plastic where possible and reusing scrap paper.
It is also strongly rooted in the community, with the team caretaking for charity the Hull and District Talking Magazine for the blind next door.
What really sets Marion Owen Travel apart, though, is the team’s togetherness; Marion and Emma formed a bubble during Covid, sharing tears and laughs in equal measure. And now with another set of hands, Marion is confident she can get back to investing more of herself in the business’s future.
