Touring and adventure travel is a part of the fabric at Marlborough-based agency Travel By Hannah – equating for more than 50% of business, which has more than doubled in the last year, boosted in part by managing director Hannah Porter’s decision to escort her own tour groups to Finnish Lapland. The agency marketed two exclusive departures, which sold out (to 60 passengers), and have more planned for the upcoming winter season. Giving the group members branded thermal hats increased the visibility of the Travel By Hannah brand on social media, helping with referrals. The agency regularly uses travel contacts to organise bespoke experiences, from a private bush dinner for clients on a multi-centre South Africa tour to helping a multigenerational family with various special needs book a safari. Using QR code links in printed and digital posters that pair with the Travel By Hannah website helps track the engagement of particular offers, while investment in a new interactive online search for “latest offers” according to holiday type helped secure an Intrepid tour booking with business class flights. Extra hacks such as climate graphs and a “best time to safari in Africa” calendar motivate customers to continue their research on the agency’s website. Hannah’s own carefully curated window displays also inspire customers – a tableaux of llamas, a flamingo and a dream catcher prompted a Grand Tour of South America booking with Titan. After taking on a new team in the last year, recruited from outside of travel, Hannah has used that to her advantage to focus on training, product knowledge and familiarisation trips, and many of the team’s own adventures feature in videos on brand marketing channels. Sustainable options are regularly referenced in marketing materials, while the team have helped more customers go green by booking electric car hire in destinations such as Finland, Sardinia and the US.
