Guru Travel Group is welcomed into the Top 50 for the first time after judges were wowed by its approach to selling weddings and honeymoons. Founders Paul and Emily Salisbury launched the agency in 2016 as a direct response to the poor service they felt they had received personally while buying travel – which is why the couple have always put customer service at the heart of the business. After steady growth since launch, the business battled its way through the Covid pandemic, and the experience left Paul and Emily determined to bounce back stronger. The last 12 months have seen massive growth in weddings and honeymoons through the agency, with sales up by more than half and the category now responsible for 40% of the company’s business. The couple now employ two home-based travel consultants to support growth. The agency’s extreme commitment to customer service saw them arrange a surprise re-enactment of one couple’s wedding dinner when they returned to Sandals Halcyon Beach in Saint Lucia to renew their vows 20 years after their wedding – with the happy couple welcomed back in the same restaurant, at the same table and with the same menu they were offered 20 years previously! One other standout occasion saw them switch an entire wedding from Antigua to Jamaica in September last year, when the airport was closed due to a hurricane and it was impossible for the event to go ahead. The wedding went ahead on the date that was originally planned, with the agency working closely with the Jamaican tourist board to ensure all the correct paperwork and necessary details were in place.
