Travel Counsellors puts a mighty array of back-office support behind its corporate TCs, and has invested more than £3 million in corporate-facing technology over the past year. Conferma has been a real timesaver when it comes to the GDS hotel booking process, clawing back time sufficient to make three extra bookings a week, while a multimillion-pound investment in Travelport’s GDS services comes as part of an effort to cut ticketing queues by 80%. Another real focus has been expanding NDC content, which is searchable through the agency’s Phenix platform and allows corporate TCs to offer their clients significantly better rates. British Airways is now fully integrated, and Air France-KLM is on the system too. However, it is the tools that allow TCs to work collaboratively that stand out. More than 50% of UK-based TCs use TC Teams, allowing commission and profit to be split equitably. This community ethos is all-pervading and peer-to-peer learning is blossoming with more than 150 mentors and 190 TC experts among the 2,000-strong headcount. A new training hub has put all of Travel Counsellors’ training and learning resources – past and present – at TCs’ fingertips and is fully searchable. The agency has just appointed its first-ever knowledge manager too, and TCs can book one-to-ones with the training team. Travel Counsellors is working with Trees4Travel and Thrust Carbon to measure and reduce its carbon impact; it offset emissions from its 2023 annual conference, and offsets its own team’s business travel. TCs from across the country, meanwhile, will be taking part in 23 events and challenges on 23 June this year to raise money for the Reuben’s Retreat charity. Travel Counsellors for Business now accounts for 25% of Travel Counsellors’ total transaction value, and has a clear plan to grow to a £500 million a year business.
