Innovation has been the name of the game for Designer Travel, which in the past year has welcomed 15 new homeworkers and two new head office managers, and achieved its best-ever financial results. The company builds its own problem-solving technology and has had particular recent success improving its reward scheme. The system, through which clients can earn financial incentives for putting their friends in touch to plan their holidays, evolved from the web into a handy mobile app last year. This has proved so popular referrals have doubled, and the company has paid out thousands of pounds’ worth of thankyous. Meanwhile Designer Travel’s new reviews platform is drawing thank yous of its own – with around 1,000 five-star reviews since November. Other technology upgrades ensure the latest holiday offers are always hot across homeworkers’ social media, while customers requesting a quote for a holiday receive smartly presented bespoke itineraries. Cleverly responding to social media trends, Designer Travel has been helping its own agents set up as ‘professional influencers’ stressing how their holiday recommendations are backed not by whim or sponsorship but by experience. Each of its 138 homeworkers has been supplied with portable tripods and lights and given training in video making. Their efforts have so far drawn a collective 100,000 new followers to the homeworkers’ social media accounts. Numerous homeworkers have also been trained in Designer Travel’s new Wedding Academy. The business has been particularly keen to expand homeworkers’ knowledge beyond the beach in the last year, and escorted touring and river cruising are among the styles of holiday gaining more customer interest as a result. Keen to give something back, the company has also been busy attending sustainability training and running a fundraising auction to support a charity looking after deer affected by the Rhodes wildfires.
