Designer Travel has been on a mission to take its clients Beyond the Beach this past year, and the agency’s aptly-named touring and adventure travel campaign has been a smash with customers and its team – with dream trips booked across the world, from the US to Japan. Staff at the company have been busy building relationships with key industry suppliers, investing in both product and skills training, and tasking two new business development managers with social media and digital content support. Twenty agents also attended a major industry conference to further grow their knowledge and passion for the sector. Social media has been a huge contributor to expanding the company’s touring and adventure business and for helping to engage its customers and fuel their wanderlust, with Designer Travel agents and other staff taking centre stage, while a digital audience of 75,000 now receives tailored offers based on trends and analytics. Designer Travel’s policy of treating every customer like a VIP extends into touring and adventure – a hands-on visit to a sloth sanctuary in Costa Rica and a bespoke tour in Italy meeting a local beekeeper, filling free time on a group tour, are just two of the customised experiences that agents have used personal contacts to arrange. Rewards for clients who rebook extend to hampers of treats or a £25 donation to a charity of their choice, while referrals, made easy with a new agency app, also earn rewards. A sustainability page on the Designer Travel website sets out the company’s advice for travellers when it comes to animal attractions, while a digital tips book, Little Steps, Big Impact, is shared with customers pre-departure. An internal taskforce meets monthly to share sustainable updates and discuss initiatives – in the wake of last summer’s wildfires in Rhodes, the team raised money to support a native deer species whose habitat had been badly affected.
