Arranging a private wedding proposal beneath Botticelli’s Birth of Venus inside Florence’s famed Uffizi Galleries seems no problem for Simon O’Neill, one of the team of five high-flying Oasis Portfolio consultants. Between them, the five have about 150 years of travel experience and represent the high-end, appointment-only division of Oasis Travel in Northern Ireland, with Portfolio offices in Belfast, Lisburn and Holywood.

Paired with immense global knowledge, one of the keys to their success is inevitably their local connections, with each of them very active in their communities, whether it be the Rotary, Chamber of Commerce or Women’s Institute. You will find them putting on events such as afternoon teas, a wine-pairing dinner with tour operator Azure for top clients at Shu restaurant in Lisburn, or a culinary tour around Italy, South Africa and Spain with Kirker Holidays at Fontana in Holywood.

Their sense of community spirit extends to the charities they support, such as a respite care centre for children with cancer and their families, while raffle prizes are often given for the Lord’s and Lady Taveners. Simon says the team’s community spirit is inspired by Sandra Corkin, the founder of Oasis: “Sandra is just the most caring person and boss. She’s very charitable and we all follow on from her lead.”

Oasis also has a laudable approach to corporate social responsibility, whether looking into using biodegradable ticket wallets, or operating clutter- and waste-free working environments. There’s also a solid approach to staff wellbeing and professional development, such as a “get fit for Christmas bootcamp” funded by Sandra.

Also new is the “supper club” concept, whereby clients pay a nominal fee for an amazing dinner, meet like-minded travellers and hear an inspirational talk from a travel partner. Portfolio also now takes its own area at Oasis’s large cruise and travel show, and has a bespoke magazine for clients, sent every 12 weeks, as well as advertising in high-end magazine Ulster Tatler, to ensure the right clients get to know about its obvious skill for designing memorable trips.
