When director Paul Johnstone opened homeworking agency Now Lets Travel’s first physical premises in December 2020, little did he know how fast business would pick up – despite being in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
As “Ground Zero” for NLT’s venture onto the high street, the Newcastle store has gone above and beyond as the company’s flagship store.
Last year, the branch installed LED lighting and stopped printing customer documents, opting instead for personal quotation cards to boost its sustainability credentials.
To ensure the team’s product skill and knowledge remains at a high standard, the agency has a daily team brief to cover sales performances, business updates and supplier news, and has held multiple in-store supplier speed dating events. NLT also teamed up with local training course provider Zenith Training to offer staff personal development courses in management, social media and marketing.
To attract more customers, the agency partnered with MSC Cruises to rent out a pop-up store in Gateshead’s Metro Centre, which led to an influx of enquiries from other cruise lines eager to host similar one-off events. And when local football club Newcastle United reached the Carabao Cup final, the branch secured three coaches and booked three London hotels and promoted the deal on its Facebook page – which led to an increase in new business and engagement.
To cement its identity and principals, the store’s window marketing campaign is centred around three main superhero-themed characters: Super Saver, Eco Enthusiast and Captain Cruise, each of whom promotes a different range of holidays.
The agency’s success is born from its lively staff – who are supported through initiatives including a cost-of-living bonus, employee of the month scheme and multiple team outings. In March, the team took part in a sleepout at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park stadium to help raise awareness of the city’s homeless problem.
