Oasis Travel’s snazzy virtual reality lounge is one of many things that make this agency stand out – the area at the back of the shop was created with Celebrity Cruises and gives customers a chance to see what it’s like on one of the cruise line’s ships.
As well as that innovative space, elsewhere in the shop the window is being used to showcase luggage as part of a collaboration with a local retailer, while the upstairs has been given a facelift to provide a large setting for client events.
Some clients have also found themselves invited to swanky dinners at restaurants such as Shu, one of Belfast’s finest eateries. In fact, all clients might well have seen Oasis Travel’s wide-scale marketing across the town, with everything from billboards to bus stops designed to make sure everybody in Bangor thinks of Oasis Travel first.
The store goes to extraordinary lengths to look after clients – recently dispatching one of the team’s nephews to make a detour during his own holiday in Lanzarote to collect a wallet left behind by a customer the week before. Recognition of how the staff went the extra mile during the pandemic even saw the shop recognised as a finalist in the Bangor Business Awards.
From seafront strolls to allow more of a chance to connect with each other, to Sunday lunches together in a local pub, manager Lynn Jamison makes sure this six-strong team are well taken care of. She also spreads her helpful net to local colleges, with regular speaking slots at the Bangor Academy and South Eastern Regional College to ensure the next generation is encouraged to consider being an agent too.
When it comes to sustainability, one of the team is now a Green Champion, part of a laudable initiative from HQ to make sure the business continues to reduce its own carbon footprint, while encouraging customers to enjoy more immersive, local experiences. Meanwhile, staff trips are planned to Mexico, France and Tuscany to seek out eco-conscious places to recommend to customers.
