For an agency that has only been on the high street for just over three years, Beverley Travel has already ripped up the industry rule book to win its regional category and the overall crown of the UK & Ireland’s No.1 Agency in TTG’s Top 50 Travel Agencies 2023.
Co-owners and directors Kelly Cheesman and Karl Douglas have built an eight-strong team of dedicated travel advisors, containing a mix of experienced industry veterans and new faces in the sector from the local community.
Last year, the agency introduced a digital VIP Club, which rewards customers with money off future holidays when they book a trip with the branch, and the store’s drinks cooler is a hit with clients looking to book a getaway to mark a special occasion. The agency is also quick to act on negative feedback – which it rarely receives, evidenced through its 4.9/5 Trustpilot score – with morning team briefings to see how they can improve.
The team’s expertise is honed via training initiatives, both in-house and through external providers, as well as frequent one-to-one meetings, buddy catch-ups and social events. The agency garners around 10,000 weekly Facebook hits and has recently launched a TikTok account to target a wider range of clients.
Kelly also recently launched a Mums in Business group to help support mothers in the local community with business advice and opportunities through coffee mornings and other events, while Karl is a keen member of local BNI and entrepreneurship groups.
In a bid to improve its sustainability credentials, Beverley Travel produces its own brochure by condensing information from suppliers into one handheld document.
The store also installed light sensors in its back office and strives to use electronic documents when possible.
Last year, the company partnered with Age Concern Hull to become a drop-off centre for the charity’s Christmas shoe box appeal.
