In the back streets of Blackpool big things are happening. Tucked away in South Shore, The Travel Village is pulling in customers from across Lancashire and beyond. Bonds between staff members are strong at this 65-year-old business. They’ve got each other’s backs and this shows time and again as they look to deliver top levels of service. The team has more than 160 years of experience in travel, but that has not stopped branch manager Carolyn Markey and senior management from developing two apprentices last year while also offering work experience to local students. The team are always looking to go above and beyond for customers – whenever and wherever they can – including at the company’s conference in Cyprus last December. Staff seized the opportunity to visit a nearby hotel where a 22-person wedding party will be heading this summer and secured room upgrades and a gift for their clients. They even made sure the hotel invoiced The Travel Village so as to keep it as a surprise for their customers. It’s that level of detail that the team pride themselves on, with the same also the case for their training and product knowledge. After three team members sailed onboard adults-only cruise line Virgin Voyages, they were quick to share their experiences with customers and knew just the right clients who’d feel right at home. Consultant Alison even managed to tenaciously persuade a cruise line to adapt a 90-day world cruise itinerary so her clients could secure travel insurance. Although it’s not just stories of travel heroism that set the Travel Village apart, the team have also spent a lot of time giving back to the local community with a series of beach cleans held on Blackpool beach last year raising more than £7,000 for charity.
